Start your day with all sites open
If you are a Firefox (web browser) user you are already a huge fan of tabbed browsing, add-ons, fast loading, and a sleek interface that is infinitely customizable. If you’re not using Firefox, get ye (or is that thee?) over to Mozilla.com, download and install forthwith.
I learned a great Firefox trick this morning I just had to share. On my first morning of unemployment (in 20 years – hire me now!) I thought, “man that’s a lot of work to open all my social networking sites one after another, I wish I could automate that!” Facebook, LinkedIn, my blog Blinking12.ca, Ping.fm to update my status everywhere, Google Reader – phew!
So I Googled it, and, presto bizmo, I found this solution, summarized as:
- Open Firefox
- Under the Tools menu, under Options, on the Main tab you’ll see where you can set your home page (see screen shot below)
- Instead of entering just one Uniform Resource Locator (aka URL, geek-speak for Internet address) add multiple URLs separated by the “pipe” character, which is the little stick thing above the backslash on the right-hand side of your keyboard
- Choose “show my home page” from the “When Firefox starts” drop down menu – say OK to save and that’s it!
- From now on when you start Firefox, or click your Home icon in the toolbar, your multiple pages will load each in their own tab and you are relieved of the onerous labor of opening those pages one-by-one, yay!

I was able to achieve the same thing by opening all the websites I want to begin with and then under the options button click the “use current webpages” button. Have you had a chance to mess with flock yet?

I like your way better, Phil! How simple is that!
I played with it briefly but am too hooked on my other ways of seeing social media to convert, might have to give it a fair chance in the coming weeks.
